It’s Who We Are…
Our Roots
Divine Providence Community Home is a not-for-profit nursing home, owned and operated by the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence. The Sisters were invited to Sleepy Eye in the late 1950’s by Fr Stephen Adrian, to meet the need for a Catholic Nursing Home in Brown County. By October of 1960, the doors opened and the first 3 residents moved in.
Since then, Divine Providence has been home to over 1,000 residents from Sleepy Eye and the surrounding towns and cities.
“You will find some of the most and best in adoration at the foot of the altar, meditating on the life of Jesus, and the instructions that pour forth from the Gospel.”
-St. Louis Guanella
Our Corporate Culture
Divine Providence is more than just our name – it’s the belief upon which our home is built. The root word of Providence is “provide.” It was through the Providence or “providing” of God that our Home began and that it continues. Our Founder, St. Louis Guanella, knew that if a work was dedicated to serving others with love and kindness, God would bless it. He also believed that God is truly our Father, and wanted every house opened by his Sisters and Priests to truly be a “home” where all would feel loved and accepted. This is what we work towards; this is our Corporate Culture.
Over the years, Divine Providence Home has been blessed with dedicated staff, caring and loyal family members, capable volunteers – including the Ladies’ Auxiliary – and wonderful residents. The presence of the Sisters keeps the founding spirit alive, helping Divine Providence to truly be a “Home” for those who live here.
