We’re about more that just “keeping busy.” At Divine, the Nursing Care Home is just another home in the neighborhood.
Since many of our residents aren’t able to get out in the neighborhood to often, we bring the neighbors in. Each year, the Miss Sleepy Eye candidates visit and take photos with our residents. In 2018, our Nursing Assistant, Brianne (middle) was one of our Miss Sleepy Eye Princesses.
During Lent, the St. Mary’s School first grade students come to practice their reading skills – and our residents get to hear first hand just how good they are. Throughout the year, preschool kids visit and join their Grand-Friends for “Young at Heart” intergenerational activities. And Halloween always brings a parade of little ones dressed in full costume and eager for treats.
Professional and family entertainers join us frequently at Divine. The New Ulm Concord Singers, the Sleepy Eye Concertina Band, and many other brighten our afternoons and evening with their music. In-house sing-alongs and surprise visits by talented relatives also add to the sounds of music at Divine. But music isn’t all we do. Flower arranging presentations and dance shows round out our in-house entertainment events.
The Divine Providence Van makes it possible join the community when the weather is nice (and sometimes even when it’s not!). A quick trip out our back door gets us to the Pontoon on Sleepy Eye Lake. Rides in the country often find us at the Dairy Queen. In 2019, the Divine Providence residents were given the honor of judging the Christmas Lights in town. Wrapped in warm woolen mittens, our team found many reasons for their choices of whose Christmas decorations out-shone the rest.
Each year finds us with new ideas for how best to spend our days. You’ll see what we’ve come up with on FaceBook. Follow us!
