Divine Providence

Activities

We’re about more than just “keeping busy.” At Divine, the Nursing Care Home is just another home in the neighborhood.

Since many of our residents aren’t able to get out in the neighborhood too often, we bring the neighbors in. Each week, neighbors from the community stop in to socialize, entertain, and visit with our Grandfriends.

During the school year, St. Mary’s students will often visit Divine to sing songs to the residents, play competitive games, or share projects of what they have been working on in school. The residents can learn from the children and the children can learn from the residents. It’s a win-win all around.

Each holiday is celebrated in a unique way which may include themed-games, parades, special treats, and a whole lot of fun. As an added bonus, the holidays aren’t just celebrated on the specific day, they can be celebrated across the entire month!

Professional and family entertainers join us frequently at Divine. The New Ulm Concord Singers, the Sleepy Eye Concertina Club, and many others brighten our afternoons and evenings with their music. In-house sing-alongs and surprise visits by talented relatives also add to the sounds of music at Divine. But music isn’t all we do. Flower arranging presentations and dance shows round out our in-house entertainment events.

The Divine Providence Van makes it possible to join the community when the weather is nice (and sometimes even when it’s not!). A quick trip out our back door gets us to the Pontoon on Sleepy Eye Lake. Rides in the country often find us at the Dairy Queen. The Divine Providence residents were even given the honor of judging the Christmas Lights in town. Wrapped in warm woolen mittens, our team found many reasons for their choices of whose Christmas decorations out-shone the rest.

A favorite summer activity is taking rides on the Tri-Shaw. Residents are able to enjoy rides around the lake on the bike trail, through the neighborhood to visit old friends and neighbors, or up- town to make stops at favorite businesses in Sleepy Eye.

Each year finds us with new ideas for how best to spend our days. Follow us on Facebook to see what we are up to!
